Anyone want to go ice skating?

The Little Pigeon River begins to freeze over from the single digit temperatures!

Last night the temps in East TN dropped into the single and negative digits for the 1st time this winter. Wind chills are being reported at -5 to -15 degrees!

It’s not often that the Little Pigeon River freezes anymore, but here are some shots of it this afternoon with a bit of ice starting to build up.

The temperatures are supposed to go back down close to zero again tonight. So, Anyone want to go ice skating in the morning??!!

WDVX requested a buffet of Chicken & Dumplings, Country Ham, Fried Pork Chops, Red Potatoes, Cabbage and Mustard Greens. For Dessert they had Sweet Potato Pie, Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler and Chess Pie! Yummy!!

Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’, See That River Rollin’!

The recent rain has sent the Little Pigeon River over it's banks!
When the water gets this high we can not release the water wheel to turn, because then we can't stop it!
This tree is usually surounded by grass along the bank of the mill pond.

You can see here how high the water was overnight beneath the mill. This picture was taken in an area that is restricted by visitors.
This waterfall is underneath the Mill! The river has wrapped around the side of the Mill and is flowing over the foundation behind the wheel.


These pictures were taken just before 9 am this morning. We have had record amounts of rain over the past couple of days all over East TN and the Little Pigeon River has jumped it’s banks!
When I took these the river had receeded some already, but more rain is expected today and tonight the temperature is supposed to drop to freezing and we may have some snow in the morning. So look for more pictures!
